About

Scott Doniger

Chronic Stress Counselor, Couples Counselor, & Workshop Guide

Scott Doniger is a Chronic Stress Mental Health Counselor, Workshop Guide, and published author who serves both individuals and couples. His approach is anchored in Parts Work (e.g., Internal Family Systems, IFS) and Jungian Psychology, but also incorporates a variety of talk therapeutic and somatic modalities.

His groundbreaking book,‘HIJACKED: Getting to Know Our Parts and Why They Take Us Over’ (2025), is the first-of-its-kind to systematically catalog thirty of the most common  "parts" that frequently take over our emotions and behaviors. Doniger guides clients and speaks publicly as an authority on how Parts Work therapy helps individuals and couples learn why and how these parts take people over — hijack them — into dysfunctional emotional and physical states. To support the challenges intimate partners often encounter in relationship, Scott is a also practitioner of the Intimacy From The Inside Out modality (essentially, Parts Work for couples).

In addition to Parts Work, Scott is a certified Jungian Coach and analyst. He has completed the Trauma Research Foundation’s comprehensive 9-month intensive trauma treatment program. In sum, his lived experience and training offer individuals and couples a wide range of “tools and skills” — Parts Work, IFIO, Jungian Psychology, Components-Based Psychotherapy, EMDR, and a variety of mindfulness and somatic modalities.

Here’s how Scott’s path to counseling emerged.

After a three-decade career in marketing and business strategy, Doniger pivoted to mental health support in 2022, following his own transformative healing journey through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and his lifelong journey to better understand his own inner world. In the fall of that year, Scott found the space to ask himself a simple but hard question:

Is there a way to alchemize the thing I am most comfortable and passionate about with the skills I’ve honed and create a life of purpose that is sustainable?

Reframed, this moment enabled me to move from career-pivot to life-pivot. Which is how the moment of clarity emerged, simple and pure and right.

Use the experience as a psychologist's client and knowledge gained through my own healing journey (outlined in detail here) to help others stuck and suffering as I had been a few years ago. Be, to others in need, a guide for inner-world exploration, self-healing, and life stage transition that I had become for myself.

Is it my calling to be a Chronic Stress Counselor for individuals and couples? Yes.

When I'm not counseling, I'm on my road bike riding, at the gym, hiking, writing, cooking, playing tennis, snowboarding, or eating. Or napping. Or listening to Goose, Phish, Khruangbin, The Who, or My Morning Jacket.

Training

His lived experience and training combine Parts Work, IFIO (Intimacy From The Inside Out), Components-Based Psychotherapy, EMDR and a variety of mindfulness and somatic modalities to help clients navigate chronic stress, anxiety and unresolved physical illness.

  • We all have many parts to our personalities and bodies. Understanding the roles parts play, the burdens they carry, and the "exiled" parts of us that have been seriously wounded is the way to heal our inner world. No framework has helped me more; Parts Work can help you too.

  • Few of life's experiences are as challenging than when we become stuck in a state of chronic stress, unable and ill-equipped to avoid sinking into prolonged sadness or jetting into hyper-arousal. I help people become unstuck from their current state of chronic stress and trauma through IFS (see above) and other stress|trauma-specific modalities. I also specialize in helping people suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (aka Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), having lived through the anxieties and struggles myself.

  • From meditation and breath work to yoga and pilates, practices that bring mind and body together in awareness can help people move through chronic stress|trauma to achieve long-lasting healing and health. When appropriate, I bring the mindful deployment of psychedelic medicines (e.g., psilocybin, ketamine) through partnerships with deeply knowledgeable and experienced practitioners.‍
